Benoît Bissonnette

Benoît Bissonnette is professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of Laval University, where he co-supervised in the recent years the NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Durable Repair and Optimized Maintenance of Concrete Infrastructure. This chair, gathering over ten major industrial and public partners from the cement and concrete industry, has led to major practical developments in rehabilitation of concrete structures. Prof. Bissonnette is member of several technical committees of the American Concrete Institute (ACI C223 Shrinkage-compensating concrete; ACI C364 (chairman), ACI 364-0A & ACI 364 TG-1 Rehabilitation), Rilem (Rilem TC 181-EAS, TC 193-RLS), the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI Repair Materials and Methods Committee), as well as the North American consortium Concrete Repair Experimental Engineering Program (CREEP). He has been president of the Quebec and Eastern Ontario Chapter of the ACI and has co-founded the Quebec chapter of the ICRI. Prof. Bissonnette has been elected Fellow of the American Concrete Institute in 2009 and he is a member of the Quebec Order of Engineers (OIQ).

Actual research interests

  • In addition to rehabilitation of concrete structures, prof. Bissonnette’s research interests include the volume changes of cement-based materials, cracking and durability, specialty concretes, shrinkage-compensated concretes, instrumentation and the development of characterization tests.
