Josée Duchesne

Josée Duchesne is a professor in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineerin , Faculty of Science and Engineering at Université Laval since 1995. She was Director of the department from 2006 to 2008. Professor Duchesne received his engineer degree in geological engineering in 1987 from Université Laval. She also obtained a master's degree (1989) and a Ph.D. (1993) from the same institution for her research on the role of supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) in suppressing expansion against alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete. Since 2010, Professor Duchesne is Director of the Université Laval part of the Research Center on Concrete Infrastructures (CRIB) . She is a member of the International RILEM Technical Committee TC -PAE (Performance of Cement Materials in Aggressive Environments) and TC- SCM (Supplementary Cementing Materials).

Actual research interests

• The research interests of Professor Duchesne mainly focus on the concrete durability and on innovative ways to improve concrete sustainability by the use of industrial waste or non-traditional supplementary cementing materials. She is also interested in carbon sequestration, specifically mineral carbonation of ultramafic tailings.
